Drone Camp

Dr. Afsari gave a talk at the Drone Camp arranged by the Virginia Tech Mid-Atlantic Aviation Partnership and Virginia Tech Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) which is attended by middle school students who learned to build and fly drones. It's a wonderful opportunity for these young minds to explore their passions and skills in this field. The campers got to hear from Rich Henson of ABC 13 - WSET, Joshua Pye of Wing, and Elvis Rosario from Virginia Tech, who shared how drone technology has enriched their careers.

CEED STEP Summer Camp

About 60 incoming engineering students visited different labs in the MLSOC, including the ARCADE lab. Dr. Afsari and Ph.D. student Srijeet Halder showcased practical applications of robots in construction. They engaged the participants with interactive and enjoyable robotic activities, making the learning experience both informative and entertaining.

Presentation at the ASCE's I3CE Conference

Srijeet Halder presented his research on hand gesture control of robot arms at the International Conference on Computing in Civil Engineering at Oregon State University, Corvallis, Oregon.

CEED C-Tech^2 Summer Camp

Dr. Afsari with PhD student Srijeet Halder offered two sessions in the C-Tech^2 summer camps on June 27th and July 1st, 2022, to 32 students in total. C-Tech^2 is a two-week summer residential camp for rising junior and senior high school young women. A primary focus of the program is to help develop and sustain the interests of young women in engineering. The team presented real-world applications of robots for construction inspection and monitoring and provided hands-on robotic activities for the participants in a fun and exciting way.

Workshop for Eastern Montgomery High School

NSF project PIs Afsari, Akbari, and Patrick conducted two workshops on "Inspector Assistant Robot in Construction Progress Monitoring" for two groups of students (a total of 40 students grades 9-12 ages ~14-18) from Eastern Montgomery Highschool on October 15 and 22, 2021 on Virginia Tech campus.

Construction Robotics Student Workshop

The ARCADE lab organized a construction robotics workshop which was attended by more than 20 students from various programs like Construction Engineering & Management, Building Construction, Architecture, Computer Science, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

Students learned many things about Construction Robotics and legged robots. The workshop also provided networking opportunities to the students when they developed and presented startup ideas with robots with the help of industry mentors. Two winning teams also won Hokie swags.

Engineering Social

Students from ARCADE lab led by Dr. Afsari showcased the Spot robot at the CEM booth in the Engineering Social event. Srijeet Halder and Minghao Dong talked about their work on construction robots with engineering freshmen. Curious students enquired and learned about the potential of robots in construction industry.
